The sterling of England was a coin that was trusted in France and the Low Countries for its weight and unaltering fineness. It therefore became widely imitated and copied. Whilst some imitations name the issuer and the mint, others are less informative and others amount to nothing less than outright fraud. Some in both classes can be die linked to each other.
