Original tally band of 'HMS.AVOCA'. Comp with its original wool-tape chin strap, together with a quantity of original paperwork to James Hutton, Royal Navy Reserve & a pr of original WWI 'RNR' (blue on white) ratings sleeve patches. Paperwork inc Hutton's 'King Neptune Toll' Crossing the Line cert dated 'HMS. AVOCA, 19 April 1916'; HMS Avoca Ship Leave Ticket named to Hutton, Nov.28.1918; a Dec 1918 Telegram advising him of extension of leave & two Leave or Duty Ration Books named to Hutton, 28/12/18. Note: Originally built as 'AVON' (3) for the Royal Mail Steam Packet Company 1907, served as a troopship 1915, seconded to RN as Armed Merchant Cruiser & renamed HMS 'AVOCA' 1915-19. Service inc Western Pacific Patrol. Returned to RMSP. Co. 1919, scrapped 1930. Light stains, moth nip to chin strap. Exc. A classic WWI period RN Ratings Cap in exc, with provenance.
