20409 Click for more photos | Japan 1894-95. Sino-Japanese War. Ukiyo-e original multi-coloured woodblock print triptych, 'The Great Victory of Our Army at the Battle of Pyongyang', 15 Sep 1894, by Ginko (c1874-97). It depicts the Japanese Army breaking through the Chinese defence at the wall of Pyongyang Castle. At the centre the Battle Commander Lieutenant General Nozu Michitsura on a horse (biography included) waving a sword & organising the attack. Not far away another Commander Major General Tatemi, also on horse back waving a sword, painted in a lighter colour. From the far end it shows Major General Oshima leading his team in a fierce engagement with the Chinese. Not far away it shows the Chinese Army Officer Ma Yukun fleeing while the Chinese Chief Commander Zuo Baigui is besieged (1837-1894, killed in action, being the highest rank killed in the war on the Chinese side, biography included) (approx 35.5x72.3cm). Paper edges signs of wear but printed VF & problem free.
