20406 Click for more photos | Japan 1894-95. Sino-Japanese War. Ukiyo-e original multi-coloured woodblock print triptych, 'Booty of Chinese and Korean Implement of War After the Victory of the Battle of Seonghwan (Asan)' 28-29 July 1894, by Nagashima Karuka/Nagashima Mengsai (?-?). It depicts the spoils from the battle, censored by the Ministry of Internal Affairs. On top is the breakdown list of the booty with the original Japanese script and its toggle translated version included in this lot. Noticeably in the centre is captive the Commander's flag of Chinese Army of General Ye Zhichao (Wade-Giles Yeh Chih-ch'ao, 1838-1901). His biography also included in this lot. Also inc brief information of the Battle of Seonghwan (Asan) (approx 37.2x72.3cm). VGC. This is a rare Sino-Japanese war paint, hardly seen offered for sale in the market. We can only find one example in the collection of Yamaguchi Prefectural Museum & the Collection of Shizuoka Prefectural Central Library. | AVAILABLE at A$1000 |
