Japan. 1894-95. Sino-Japanese War. Ukiyo-e original multi-coloured woodblock print triptych, 'Booty of the Chinese Implements after the Victory of the Battle of Seonghwan (Asan) Displayed on the Grounds of the Yasukuni Shrine in Kundan and Various Kinds of Unused Artillery'. 28-29 Jul 1894, triptych by Utagawa Kunimasa IV. It depicts the spoils of the battle of Seonghwan (Asan) on the ground of the nowadays controversial Yasukuni Shrine (Wikipedia info included). On the centre top is the brief breakdown list of the items. Notably, in the centre, shows the Commander's flag of the Chinese Army of General Ye Chicha (Wade-Giles Yeh Chih-Ch'ao, 1838-1901, biography included). From the right, positioned the Chief Japanese Army Officials of the battle. Notably, at the front, sits Major General Oshima Yoshimasa (1850-1926, biography included), the Chief Commander of the battle, associated by his assistant Officers' Army, namely, Lt Colonel Fukushima (seated), Major Hashimoto & Captain Tanabe. Facing the Japanese Army Officers are the captured kneeling & hand-tied Chinese Army soldier (imaginary?). Also in the lower left a comic picture of the terrified Chinese Emperor seeing his army losing the battles in Korea (approx 37.5x74.3cm). Two panels have a small amount of damage, one repaired with tape on reverse. Average-GC. Very few found. One set is in the collection of Saint Louis Art Museum (into included).AVAILABLE at A$500
