20368 Click to enlarge photo | Great Britain: 1939-45 Changi Prisoner of War Camp-made bamboo flute. Straight bamboo shaft (585mm L x 32mm W). Bound with waxed thread in places. Carved & burned finger & mouth holes. Carved inscription to centre of shaft: 'JAP POW CHANGI SINGAPORE 1943 KOYLI'. Sadly the veteran's name not recorded but evidently a member of the British King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry (KOYLI) imprisoned after the fall of Singapore & probably a member of the famous Changi Camp Band. A well made item (under the conditions) & in VGC. A poignant & extremely scarce example of POW art. (P) | SOLD at A$350 |
