1855 QV 1/- violet, watermark Large Star, Perkins Bacon London printing unissued value, with 'CANCELLED' h/s which was applied to sample stamps that were given by Perkins Bacon to Rowland Hill's family. Superb VFU appearance with fantastic deep colour, with expertly repaired UR cnr which now looks perfect, (A large printing of the 1/- violet was ordered from London but when the stock arrived in Adelaide the Postmaster objected to the colour on the basis that it could get confuused with the 6d deep blue. As a result, the decision was made not to issue the stamp and the whole stock officially destroyed. Therefore, the only surviving examples in collections originate from block of 24 that was kept by Perkins Bacon in their archives of which 18 remained unused, and 6 had the CANCELLED h/s applied). Scott 4 cat US$40,000 for UN & unpriced U, and should be valued similarly. SG 4 cat £40,000 for UN & £25,000 for the 'CANCELLED' which is greatly undercatalogued as they are in fact 3 times rarer than unused, so therefore they should be valued at least at the same level = £40,000. An opportunity to purchase the rarest & most important stamp of South Australia. RPSL photo-cert, while new AIEP expert certificate can be obtained on request. (P)
