1914-18 3 times wounded Military Medal group of 3. Military Medal BWM & Victory all impressed '1680 A Cpl J Kenny 47 BN AIF'. LG citation for carrying out valuable reconnaissance in No Man's Land under fire during operations at Gueudecourt from 10-20 February 1917 in which he displayed bravery & initiative of a high order in reconnoitring the enemy wire for a lateral distance of 1000 yds. His work was chiefly responsible for our advance of 500 yds beside giving valuable information to battalions on our flank for their successful operations. On one occasion he remained under the enemy wire for 12 hours in day-light & altogether was unceasing & tireless in devotion to his duty. Kenny enlisted 31/1/16, to 14th Bn Tel-el-Kebir 27/5/16, to France 17/2/17, Lcpl 21/4/17, MM 27/3/17 WIA 16/6/17, WIA 2nd time 20/10/17, WIA 3rd time 30/3/18, leg amputated 17/4/18. R to A 29/6/18. Comes with extensive copies of files.

Cecil Constantine Nicholl, born Wellington, New Zealand 1884. Claimed previous service with 8th NZMR in Boer War on enl in NSW 30.09.1914. Discharged as deserter 11.01.1915. Re-enl for Australian Naval & Military Expeditionary Force (number 828) 14.09.1915. Returned to Australia & disch Ex-AN & MEF 31.12.1915 for refusal to obey orders in Rabaul - disqualifying his 1914-15 Star entitlement. Enl 3rd occasion 27.11.1916 & to February. Reinforcements 2nd & 4th Camel Regiments embarking for Middle East 17.02.1917. To ANZAC Signal Squadron 03.04.1917. To Australian Provost Corps 08.07.1917 - transferred to 4th Light Horse Regt 13.09.1917. RTA & discharged 05.05.1919. Numerous breeches of discipline & charges against his name, the worst two being: 23.10.1917 striking a superior officer and stating: 'YOU WILL NEVER GET BACK TO Australia. I will murder you, you bastard.' & 04.08.1918 '?in that he told Sgt Bond to mind is own business & that he was a f?? c?. ?' (this latter phrase being spelt out in full in his records). At the time of his Regiment's famous charge at Beersheba, Nicholl was in the 'clink'. His post war career would make interesting research! As 'Prince George' took no part in the Jutland Battle (being paid off at Chatham Dockyard after her Gallipoli Service & Remaining there in subsidiary roles), this is difficult to reconcile. The only two times an example of this medal have previously been offered for sale. An extremely rare group.
