Maker marked "65" to the suspension ring for noted manufacturer Klein & Quenzer, Idar Obertein. C/W a blue grey packet of issue with the title of the medal written in black ink and in red ink "Nur vom empfanger zu offnen" (Only to be opened by recipients). Document to Gefreiter Herbert Harms of I/JR 252 in 1941. Hand signed in ink pen by a Generalleutant. Document is creased from being folded in to eighths and has some minor marks and soiling. Iron Cross shows an even level of age related patina to the silver frames and beading. Blackened iron core retains all of the finish. C/w a length of ribbon. Paper packet of issue has faded on the obverse most likely from being exposed to sunlight. Now mostly a brown colour, the original blue colour is evident to the reverse. Multiple small pin holes over the packet. 'Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse 1939' printed in old German script to the obverse. Bright silver frames and beading with the only age patina visible under a strong jewellers eyeglass. Blackened iron core retains 100% of the original finish with no trace of the usual matt like appearance from age. Maker marked "40" to the suspension ring for the maker "Berg & Nolte, Ludenscheid". WW2 SUPERB EXAMPLE OF A CASED 1939 WAR MERIT CROSS WITHOUT SWORDS, INCLUDING THE ORIGINAL CARDBOARD OUTER CASE. A rare opportunity to purchase a superior example of a late war 1939 War Merit Cross without swords, most likely unissued. Obverse of the cross retains all of its original silvered finish with a very light age patina and has a really nice bright appearance with clear sharp detail. Reverse has a significant age patina over much of the surface giving it a really nice vintage toned appearance. "Coke bottle" style retaining pin. No maker mark. Black leatherette case with an embossed silver facsimile of the cross to the outer lid. Case is in almost mint condition with the only flaw being some surface rust to the hinge. Lower section of the inner case where the cross sits, is lined with black velvet. Upper section lined with a white silk like material. Marked "Deschler & Sohn, Munchen". C/w an orange coloured cardboard box marked "KRIEGSVERDIENSTKREUZ 1. KLASSE" (War Merit Cross 1st Class). Minor age related fading to the cardboard with almost no signs of wear. WW2 1957 PATTERN 1939 IRON CROSS 1ST CLASS. Older manufacture with a dark age related patina over the silver beading, frame and back plate. Blackened w/m non-magnetic centre. Few small scratches revealing the base metal. The '57 pattern Iron Crosses have the swastika replaced with a sprig of oak leaves, the date "1939" remains the same as the originals. Functional "Coke-bottle" style retaining pin to reverse. These earlier pattern '57 crosses are becoming harder to obtain. Grade II- (P)

INTERWAR BALKAN CROSS (DAS BALTENKREUZ). Pin back breast award. The Baltic cross was instituted in the summer of 1919 in commemoration of the Baltic liberation fights in 1918-19 (in Sudlivland and Kurland). Approx 21,839 were issued to members of the Baltic militia (Landeswehr) and the German volunteer units in the Baltic. A simple yet handsome award consisting of a plain bronze like metal cross approx 45mm across the span. Superimposed on this is a smaller cross of a brass or tombac metal with a "fleur -de-lis" to each end of the cross. Officially recognised by the German Government on the 16th May 1933. Grade II-

Blackened iron centre retains much of the painted finish, but is quite grubby and also may be cleaned by the purchaser to suit. Reverse has the typical "coke bottle" style retaining pin. Maker marked "26" to the pin for B.H. Mayer of Pforzheim. Black imitation leather case with a silver coloured embossed facsimile of the Iron Cross to the outer lid. Working release catch. Inner case lined with a cream coloured silk like material to the upper lid and a faded tan/brown velvet like material to the lower section. No maker mark to the case. WW2 DOCUMENT AND MEDAL GROUP TO EM FRITZ SCHWICHOW OF 2./LE BEOBACHTUNGSABTEILUNG (MOT) 6. Nice little group consisting of 2 A5 size award documents, corresponding medals & ribbon bar. The first award document, for the eastern front medal was awarded to stabsgefreiten Schwichow on the 19/7/42. A5 size award document signed by a Major. 2 hole punches to left hand side of the document. Document has several creases from being folded. Fine quality eastern front medal retaining most of it's silver coloured detail to the outer rim and the helmet and no apparent corrosion that seems to affect many of these medals. Maker marked '110' to the suspension ring. Comes with a length of ribbon. 2nd document is for the war merit cross with swords. A5 format also has been folded in to quarters at some stage and has hole punch marks to the left hand edge. Awarded to Schwichow 1/9/43. Document signed by a Lieutnant General. War Merit Cross with swords also in very nice condition retaining all of it's bronze coloured finish. No makers mark. Comes with a short length of ribbon 2 place ribbon bar for the 2 medals.
