CRIMEAN WAR MEDALLION TO COMMEMORATE THE BATTLE OF ALMA. W/m. Obverse depicts a battle scene with the wording "ALMA September 20th 1854". The reverse gives a list of all the British Regiments present at the battle. Made by the firm of "Pinches & Co" by appointment to the Crystal Palace, Sydenham, evidently to coincide with the unveiling of the Scutari Monument in 1856. Medal with eks, some wear to high points on obverse and a small attaching hole has been made through the top of the medallion. Size is 40mm in diameter. F (P)

Military Medal GVIR, impressed '6027549 GNR. S. Russell, R.A.', 1939-1945 Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal and the 1939-1945 War Medal, all unnamed as issued. Court mounted for display. EF, Citation: Action for which commended, 'Gunner Russell was the driver operator in 'D' Troop OP party. He accompanied his Troop Commander in the OP party on nearly every occasion. On 25th August 1944 at Bourgtherolde the OP party was with a Bn of the Black Watch which was completely surrounded and subject to heavy mortar and artillery fire. Gunner Russell with other members of the OP party engaged in street fighting and later when the Bn had no means of communication to the rear he operated his wireless set under continuous fire so that tactical information was passed back and fire in direct support of the Black Watch was brought down by the Div Artillery and his own Regiment' this support was desperately needed. During Sep 44 in the operations to clear Boulogne, Cap Gris Nez and Calais and again the following month during the clearing of South Beveland Gunner Russell kept his wireless set going and communications through when under fire and rendered invaluable assistance to his Troop Commander in getting vital information back and urgent calls for fire through'.
