Brown leatherette album cover embossed in gilt lettering "In treuem Gedenken an unseren 27.5.1910 Helmut 1.11.1930 von deinen Eltern" (In memory of our faithful Helmut 27/5/1910 - 1/11/1930 from your parents). C/w the original cardboard outer addressed to a relative in Philadelphia USA in 1933. Oertel was only 20 years old when he died. From the partial translation of the newspaper cuttings etc, (much of the written matter is in Sutterlin old German script and very difficult to decipher), he was injured the previous year in a collision with a motorcycle and some trauma during a night march caused his death. Some fantastic images of Oertel in his SA uniform with comrades, shots of his funeral procession, family members, etc. Clear image of Oertel lying in state (in SA uniform) with a stern looking SA man to each side. B/W postcard of Adolf Hitler at the front of the album. Album pages are loose, but come with the original spider paper dividers. Approx. 60 of the photo are military related with the owner of the album beginning his career in the Luftwaffe as a senior NCO (rank of stabsfeldwebel) most likely in a flak battery and then eventually promoted to officer ranks. There are 3 excellent larger format photos measuring from 165mm by 110mm to 240mm by 170mm. One is a handsome pre-war shot of one officer and 8 Stabsfeldwebels (Senior NCOS) all wearing jodhpurs, complete with 1st pattern Luftwaffe swords, shooting lanyards and nice clear details of the uniforms. Another is of what looks like the whole company, approx. 120 men. Various shots of Luftwaffe men in uniform in uniform etc. 9 of the photos are war time but non military related (family etc) and approx. 37 of the photo are post war presumably of the veterans reunions.
